Meet astronaut mike mullane

Buckle up and lift your team to new heights in safety with "Stories from Space" told by former astronaut Mike Mullane.

President Ronald Reagan told Mike Mullane and the rest of the crew during the maiden voyage of Space Shuttle Discovery:

"Your work up there is helping to make it easier for the people of the Earth to communicate with each other, so on top of being spacemen and a spacewoman, you're doing some very good work for your fellow citizens of Earth, and we're very thankful and we're also very proud."

Selected as a Mission Specialist in 1978 in the first group of space shuttle astronauts, he completed three space missions and logged 356 hours in space aboard the Shuttles Discovery and Atlantis before retiring from NASA and the Air Force in 1990.

Colonel Mullane has been inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame and received many awards, including the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit and the NASA Space Flight Medal.

A graduate of West Point University in 1967, Colonel Mullane was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force before his days in space. As a Weapon Systems Operator aboard RF-4C Phantom aircraft, he completed 134 combat missions in Vietnam. He holds a Master’s of Science in Aeronautical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology and is also a graduate of the Air Force Flight Test Engineer School.

Listen to this episode of The Scoop Podcast with Mike Mullane discussing what he learned about teamwork.

Mulane's lifelong passion for hiking led him to summit Africa’s highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro, on July 23, 2010. Colonel Mike Mullane was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, but spent much of his youth in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he currently resides.

Colonel Mullane’s wonderfully entertaining "Stories From Space" have been eagerly solicited by organizations of all kinds, from Fortune 500 companies to associations to universities. He has established himself as an acclaimed professional speaker on the topics of teamwork, leadership and safety.

NEW THIS YEAR: ARA rejuvenated its schedule and one of the major changes is that Mullane will deliver his keynote address on stage in the center of the Expo on Thursday morning just after breakfast.

That means that the Expo floor layout will shift after the Wednesday Networking Reception to replace the interactive ARA Lounge with a main stage to accommodate the former astronaut's lively presentation.
