This self-guided tour offers access to immersive exhibits, including a full-scale replica of the Oval Office, powerful civil rights displays, and interactive timelines of the 1960s, with an exhibit dedicated specifically to November 22, 1963, when President John F. The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) tour begins at the Redbud Center along the Colorado River with an overview of LCRA and how it provides water to more than a million people, as well as businesses, industries, and agriculture. Participants will then walk along a scale model of LCRA dams and continue to a scenic overlook with views of Tom Miller Dam before touring the dam itself.
 
Completed in 1940, Tom Miller Dam creates Lake Austin and is one of six dams along the Highland Lakes. The dams were built to help manage flooding, help provide a reliable water supply during droughts, and generate hydroelectric power. During the 1940s and 1950s, LCRA used hydroelectric power from the dams to bring power to rural communities across Central Texas for the first time. Hydropower continues to be a small but important part of LCRA’s power portfolio today. 
 
Because the dam is critical infrastructure, all participants must submit photocopies of their driver's licenses before Nov. 13, 2026, for security screening and identity verification. Attendees who select this event will be asked to submit a photo of their drivers license during the registration process.
